Attheendofthefilm,Keaton'scharacterlocksupthecopsinthepolicestation.However,thegirlheistryingtowoodisapprovesofhisbehaviorandgiveshimthecoldshoulder.Therefore,heunlocksthepolicestationandisimmediatelypulledinbythecops.Thefilmendswiththetitle"TheEnd"writtenonatombstonewithKeaton'sporkpiehatproppedonit. OneofKeaton'smosticonicandbrilliantly-constructedshortfilms,Copswasdeemed"culturally,historically,oraestheticallysignificant"bytheUnitedStatesLibraryofCongressandselectedforpreservationintheirNationalFilmRegistryin1997.
